Day 1

The beginning of wisdom

"The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction."

Proverbs 1:7 (ESV)

Devotional — written for Grace

Grace, wisdom doesn't start with having it all figured out. It starts with reverence — taking God seriously in the young-kids season, in the worry that everything depends on you. Verse 7 is an invitation: begin here, with Him, and the rest clears one day at a time.

Reflect

1. What is the difference, in your own words, between being smart and being wise?

Smart is knowing a lot. Wise is knowing what to do with it — and trusting God with the rest.

Prayer

Father, You say wisdom begins with You, so that is where I am beginning this month. Anxiety tells me everything depends on me. Remind me, as many times as it takes today, that it depends on You. I mean it this time — take it. Amen.
